House Training Your Puppy

Your baby comes litter-box trained — here’s how to finish the job fast.

You're Starting Ahead

Every Pigs N Poodles baby is litter-box trained before go-home day, which means your puppy already understands the core idea: potty happens in one place. Your job is simply transferring that habit to the yard.

The Golden Rules

Take your puppy out at the moments accidents happen: right after waking, right after eating or drinking, right after play, and every 1–2 hours in between at first. Go to the same spot, say the same cue word, and throw a small party with praise and a treat the instant they finish.

Supervise or Confine

Until fully trained, your puppy is either actively supervised or in their crate/pen — never loose and unwatched. Most accidents happen in the thirty seconds nobody was looking.

When Accidents Happen

Never punish — it only teaches puppies to hide. Interrupt calmly if you catch them mid-act, carry them to the right spot, and clean indoor accidents with an enzyme cleaner so the smell doesn't invite a repeat.

How Long It Takes

With consistency, most of our babies are reliably trained within a few weeks. A steady feeding schedule (see our Feeding Schedule guide) makes potty timing predictable and cuts the timeline dramatically.
