The Story of the Breed
A breed worth knowing
Long before the Poodle became a symbol of elegance, it was a working water retriever. The breed arose in Germany centuries ago — the name comes from the German pudel, "to splash" — and was refined in France, where it became the national dog. Even the famous Poodle clip began as function: shaved areas lightened the coat for swimming while puffs of hair protected joints and organs in cold water.
Poodles are consistently ranked among the two most intelligent dog breeds in the world. That brilliance made them circus performers, truffle hunters, hunting companions, and service dogs — and today it makes them one of the most trainable, intuitive family companions available.
Every doodle we raise stands on Poodle shoulders: the non-shedding coat, the long healthy lifespan, and the remarkable mind all come from this foundation breed.
